Location Changed to the Town Field behind the Library at the Gazebo! Bring a chair or blanket and enjoy beautiful weather AND talk about basketball!

Groton native, Boston Globe editor, and sports columnist, Dan Shaughnessy visits Groton IN PERSON to discuss his new book, Wish It Lasted Forever: Life with the Larry Bird Celtics.  The book is an immersive read that colorfully captures the Boston Celtics 1980s dynasty during an era in professional sports and journalism long gone.

Wish It Lasted Forever recounts the Celtics’ electric moments on the court, fostered by a unique team alchemy assembled by legendary Celtics architect Red Auerbach. More than a simple recounting of sports heroics, Wish It Lasted Forever grounds the Celtics’ run in an era of NBA basketball and newspaper reporting that has given way to today’s ecosphere of player tweets, team-controlled websites, and limited player access. Shaughnessy recounts how sportswriters traveled and broke bread with the teams they covered, shot hoops with the players during warm-ups, and filed stories on a given day that could impact who was on the court the next day.
