Sunanda Sahay of Color of India will be here to teach us how to create Lippan Mud-Mirror art. This traditional art form originates in Gujraat, one of the Western states of India. Like many other folk and traditional art forms, mud-mirror art has recently garnered attention for its intricate patterns and aesthetic perfection. In this workshop, participants will use acrylic paint to create a background that they will overlay with a mirror and mud design. This workshop is for those in Grades 6-12.
Sunanda Sahay is a well-known Indian artist who specializes in Mithila painting. Sunanda has learned and practices various folk and tribal artforms of different regions of India. She is known for her intricate designs and vibrant colors, which are characteristic of these art forms. Sunanda has exhibited her works at various art galleries, museums (MFA, PEM, Worcester Art, Boston Children’s, Fitchburg Art etc.) and community and educational places (Wellesley College, Pine Manor, Harvard University ). She has also conducted several interactive workshops, talks, demos, artist-in-residency, and juried shows to promote and preserve the art of Mithila painting.
