LEGO Spike for Grades 3-5

Kids in grades 3 through 5 will learn about building with LEGO Spike Essential and Prime to create STEM (science, technology, engineering and math) education goals. The program will be a mix of focused lessons and code. Along with this the students will develop invaluable approaches to critical thinking and problem-solving.

Our instructor, Divya, will teach LEGO Spike Essential and Prime during the same class.

Lego Essential (Suitable for Age 5-10) This 4-week summer session is an outreach through Lego Kingdom. During these sessions the kids learn to build their LEGO brick creations using axles, gears, battery packs and motors. In addition, kids will learn how to code their LEGO builds using a drag-and-drop based interface using Bluetooth technology.

Lesson 1 (June 7)- Build a Spike Tower by programming the river ferry to move.

Lesson 2 (June 14)- Build a Taxi and move it to go places.

Lesson 3 (June 21)- Build a cable car to cross a lake

Lesson 4 (June 28)- Build a High Stick Hockey game

Lego Prime (Suitable for Age 10-12) During these sessions the kids learn how to build a bot from scratch and to move their robot forwards, backwards, left, and right. The students will explore more ways to build bot using different add-on sensors and motors to help maneuver the bot. In addition, kids will learn how to code their LEGO builds using a drag-and-drop based interface using Bluetooth technology.

Lesson 1 (June 7)- Build an Earthquake simulator

Lesson 2 (June 14)- Build a BOT to do a break dance

Lesson 3 (June 21)- Build a BOT to detect color

Lesson 4 (June 28)- Build a Bot and train it to avoid obstacles.

About Divya: Divya is an Engineer by profession and works in a Robotic company in North Billerica. She is married to her husband of 19 years, has two wonderful kids, and currently resides in Groton. Since 2021, Divya has offered amazing kids’ programs in the past with Wedo.
