IN PERSON: Lifelong Learning: 21st Century Solutions to the Climate Crisis

Wednesday, February 17:00—9:00 PMCommunity RoomGroton Public Library99 Main St., Groton, MA, 01450

The climate crisis is no longer hypothetical. It has arrived. Join energy experts/activists in this four-part series of presentations and discussions to address climate change using safe modern nuclear power. Take a deep dive into the safety, science and enormous power of uranium and thorium as a 21st century solution to meet the escalating world demand for electricity. Examine the exaggerated fears about nuclear operations, waste, health and safety. Find out what’s new about modern nuclear reactors to feed regional power grids with clean energy 24/7, and how other countries are developing this low-carbon energy source.

The first session, January 11, will address the world-wide need for energy, examine the current use of nuclear power plants in the united states and throughout the world, and discuss the reasons for the insurgent interest in nuclear power.

The second session, January 18, will concentrate on the comparison of two paths to decarbonizing our power systems: solar, wind and batteries or nuclear.

The third session, January 25, will address the hard questions for nuclear acceptance: radioactivity and waste.

The last session, February 1, will look at the broader topic of the electrical grid and how the addition of renewables affects its operation. We will also learn about the new nuclear designs and fuels and discuss their benefits.Priority will be given to Groton residents until one week prior to the first session of this series.
