GROTON READS: The Unknown Music of Helen Crane with Bernard Crane
Thursday, March 217:00—8:15 PMSibley HallGroton Public Library99 Main St., Groton, MA, 01450
Do you know of a composer named Helen Crane? Not many people do. Ms. Crane was born in 1868. She studied at the then "Klindworth-Scharwenka" Conservatory in Berlin, Germany. Publishers printed many of her pieces, yet she is almost unknown in current day. At the end of her life, Ms. Crane left behind her hand-written manuscripts in the care of her remaining siblings. Her sister, Laura Vernon Crane Burgess, ultimately donated this trove to the New York Public Library, where the collection has been housed since the 1940s. Join local musicologist Bernard Crane to explore Ms. Crane's musical journey.
Made possible by the Groton Public Library Endowment Trust.
